KR0VER/R in the ARRL June VHF QSO Party

The KR0VER/R team had a blast! It was a lot of work, especially the hour-long pileup on 6m in DN81. Eric drove and John operated from the back of the car. We got some head scratching from other ops when it was revealed that we only had FM on a couple bands (220,900,1.2g), but we made contact. The Yaesu FT-104 was especialy strong considering that we only had it's rubber duck on it. In a previous contest we found out that it puts out slightly less than the 1 watt that it is supposed to have.

Six was huge. If you played this contest and you were anywhere east of the rockies you know what I mean. We had a hunch that the magic band was going to open due to the weather and the openings of the past few days. We had a couple goals One was to break 10k and the other was to talk to one of our friends from SoCal. The 10k came in the DN81 opening. On Sunday, Eric worked our friend Bruce (KG6IYN) in DM12 from our location in DM89. Due to a new callsign we were an unknown until Eric said, "Hey Bruce, it's John and Eric." It felt good to give a rare grid to someone you've shared a grid with before. Our first hint that the west coast could open up with came the night before while finishing up a band run with WY0X/R only 10 miles away. We flipped over to 50.125 and there was K0DI in DM14, another station that we've shared a grid with. It was clear copy and infact sounded stronger than WY0X/R.

Not done yet. need to add more

Map of the grids we talked to on all bands. Notice where we had to make more grids to the north. Almost got DO62, too!

This was the planned route

This is actually what the rove looked like
Day 1: 480.4 miles
